Join the KU Center for Sustainability at the Prairie Acre on campus to help remove invasive species and weeds from the Restoration. Gloves and hand trowels will be provided. Sturdy shoes, long pants, bug spray and sunscreen are all recommended.
The Prairie Acre Restoration Project is located on the hillside south of Blake Hall on the Lawrence KU campus. This event is on Saturday, September 30 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
From the Center for Sustainability's web page on the Prairie Acre:
"The Prairie Acre is a tract of land, now less than an acre in size, located down the hill and south from Blake and Twente Halls, and just above Sunnyside Avenue at the south entrance to campus. It was never plowed and retains some native prairie species, but has lost the majority of its species, especially wildflowers. The Capstone class of the Environmental Studies Program worked on a restoration plan in spring 2014, which we intend to use as a basis for guiding this work to restore the prairie."
