Since 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is incredible potential. As the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network, BBBS makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers ("Bigs") and children ("Littles"), ages 5 through young adulthood in communities across the country. BBBS develops positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people. Create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth!
They have the following expectations for mentors:
- Volunteers must be 18+ years old
- Attend a BBBS info session (orientation) and complete enrollment training
- Commit to volunteering for at least 1 full year
- Keep in contact with their Match Support Specialist (Case Manager) as requested; typically about once a month
- There are additional specifications depending on the program they join:
- Community based (Meet when is best for the volunteer and the youths schedule)
- Meet 2 times a month for about 2-3 hours each outing.
- Have a car and active license
- School based (Meet at the school)
- Meet 3-4 times a month for 30 minutes each outing
- Free time during the school year during lunch time
- Community based (Meet when is best for the volunteer and the youths schedule)
