Help the Quindaro Townsite Project! The KU Center for Service Learning, JCCC's Kansas Studies Institute, and others are collaborating with the Quindaro Townsite Project to stabilize ruins in this historic community of Wyandot Nation members, African Americans and Abolitionists that served as a stop on the Underground Railroad.
Who: Due to the terrain, volunteers need to be ages 12 and up.
What: Volunteers will clear debris and vegetation surrounding Quindaro Townsite building foundations. Wear pants, long-sleeves, sturdy footwear, and insect repellant. Bring gloves, water, insect repellant, and (if you have them) sharpened hand saws, tree trimmers, pruners, loppers.
Where: Meet at Allen Chapel AME Church, 3421 N. 29th St. in Kansas City, Kansas, to receive additional directions and information.
When: July 15-16, 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
