Family Promise of Lawrence is seeking KU student volunteers to help support families working toward housing stability. Volunteers play an important role in creating safe, welcoming spaces and strengthening the community connections that help families achieve stabilization.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Preparing housing units through cleaning, organizing, and light maintenance
- Assisting families with shopping for household essentials at the Reitz Home Store
- Cleaning, organizing, and restoring donated household items
- Supporting landscaping and outdoor beautification projects
- Helping with special projects, donation drives, and community events
No prior experience is required. Volunteers will receive guidance and support from Family Promise staff. Opportunities are available for individuals, student organizations, and groups. Volunteers should be dependable, willing to learn, and comfortable working with community members from diverse backgrounds.
Family Promise follows current public health recommendations and will provide any applicable safety guidance before volunteer activities.

Our community partners rely on volunteers to facilitate and support their programs. Before signing up for a volunteer opportunity, please consider whether you have the time and capacity to serve. We understand that life happens, but please try your best to provide community partners at least a 48-hour notice if you need to cancel your volunteer shift.
If you plan to participate in long-term volunteering or service projects with our community partners, we highly recommend completing a Service Project Agreement to set clear expectations between you and the organization.
If you plan to use any service hours completed through our community partners for the Certificate in Service Learning service hour requirement, we recommend completing a Service Verification Form to ensure those hours can be verified by our team.
