Join us as a Pedestrian Safety volunteer or General Parade volunteer at the Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Lawrence on November 8th from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM!
Below is a description of each volunteer role.
Pedestrian safety volunteers:
- receive task and safety briefing at 10:00 AM on the WEST side of Douglas County Courthouse
- attend to city-provided traffic barricades on cross streets
- move barricades to permit fire, police, or medical emergency vehicles to pass (only if necessary)
- move barricades to the curb when directed at end of event
- call 911 if an emergency situation occurs
General parade volunteers:
- help veterans with physical challenges to mount and dismount parade trailers
- assist in the decoration of parade vehicles
- assist in loading parade equipment for transit to storage at the dismount location
- assisting parade announcers at 9th & Mass and 11th & Mass intersections
- provide security for announcers' amplifiers, speakers, and microphones
- work other day-of event errands as they arise
- call 911 if an emergency situation occurs
