Description

Join us on Wednesday, October 27 from 2:30PM-5:30PM to 'adopt' someone who passed away in conditions of homelessness, and making them stand out in a frame/art installation, that highlights with color and shapes their vitality and human energy. Everyone is, in addition, welcome to do artwork for someone close to them who passed away. All art will be displayed at the Community gathering on Nov. 1, 6-9 pm.

Join us at the First United Methodist Church, 867 HWY 40. Arrive sometime between 2:30 to 3:30 pm to create a marker for one of the 34 individuals, men, women, and children, found in the Memory Book at the DARE center. Associate Professor Araceli Masterson will be leading the activity and welcomes your creativity. In our gathering, we are all joining – them and us, those we knew and those we know were loved and known to others, those physically present and those remembered –in the settings of a beautiful garden open to a community that believes every life matters and every life lost leaves a legacy amongst the living.

Installations vary. Often, they include a picture or a visual that ties to the person we remember. The photo/visual is set in a frame or structure that can be decorated or painted. You may also add an object, a food item, or any other creative expression that gives that person a space for themselves. Members from the Lawrence community at large will be attending the gathering, and we want to allow their senses to give their attention to each individual human being we celebrate and honor.
