Our first event of the year will allow volunteers to engage with elementary age children through unique lessons about topics the kids wouldn't be exposed to on a typical school day. This lesson will be about bullying, healthy friendships, and empowering kids through positive self image. We will be including an activity that shows how much bullying can affect others through art, and we will be doing an activity where the students will give each other positive affirmations. You do not need any background in education in order to be a part of this event; you just need to love kids and be ready to have a lot of fun! This particular time will be with Christina Smith's 4th grade class at Quail Run Elementary. Attendance at a brief volunteer training on Sunday, September 13 at 5 p.m. in the Divine 9 Room of the Kansas Union is mandatory before you are able to go into the classrooms.
