Volunteer: The Light Center - Aircrete Dome

The Light Center is a non-profit 95-acre retreat center near Baldwin City, KS. They are completing an Aircrete Dome, in which they are doing earthen clay plastering for the interior. The clay plaster is non-toxic, and the process is easy to learn. This project is a fun and educational experience for interested students!


If you are planning on volunteering, please sign up for a shift AND email the project manager Robin Goff (robingoff714@gmail.com) with your date & time of scheduled volunteering. 

If there are poor weather conditions on the date you intend to volunteer, please contact Robin Goff at robingoff714@gmail.com to confirm that the roads are safe to travel on near the Light Center.

Volunteers are at the heart of the Kansas Historical Society’s mission. We are currently seeking enthusiastic, community-minded individuals to join our volunteer team in the newly renovated Kansas Museum of History. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact, gain hands-on museum experience, and connect with the greater Topeka community. 

Volunteers needed:

Museum Welcome Desk 

Be the warm, welcoming face that greets visitors! Assist with check-in, guide visitors, and answer general questions. Four hour shifts are availble Tuesday-Saturday from 9am-5pm and on Sunday from 1pm-5pm. 

Gallery Guide

Engage visitors by sharing stories that highlight exhibits and deepen their understanding of Kansas history. Four-hour shifts are available Tuesday-Saturday from 9am-5pm and on Sunday from 1pm-5pm.

Ready for Good is a furniture store that hires, trains, and mentors "48 youth per year who are making the difficult transition to adulthood while growing up in the foster care system and/or juvenile justice system, or homeless". Per their website, Ready fo Good furnishes youth with:

paid work experience and job training; 22 lessons in top job skills employers are looking for; a safe and fun place to work, where youth feel appreciated and supported; informal mentorship"
