The Lawrence Breakfast Optimist Club is looking for volunteers for their Pancake Breakfast, a fundraiser that provides them the funds to support local organizations in the Lawrence Community!

Date: November 7th and 8th

Location: American Legion, 3408 West 6th Street

They need these volunteers (one shift minimum per volunteer):

Friday evening: (Nov. 7) 

Time: Set up 3:30pm to 5:30pm

Duties: Moving tables, setting up tables and chairs, getting out grills, unloading groceries, etc.

Saturday morning: (Nov. 8)

First shift & duties (7:00am-9:30 am):

-Helping with the grills
-Serving people - making sure no one needs refills
-Kitchen work (helping with making pancake batter, coffee, juices etc)
-Clearing tables

Second Shift  & duties (9:30 am - noon):

-Cleaning tables

-Serving people - making sure no one needs refills

-Refilling pancakes & coffee

-Helping with kitchen & other needs

Saturday afternoon: (Nov. 8)

Third Shift & duties (2:00pm to 3:00pm):

-Moving grills to original places
-taking up cardboard and pitching it
-taking out trash
-cleaning tables
-moving tables and chairs
-washing dishes
-cleaning up the kitchen

You are invited to join us on October 29th at 5 PM for Trunk or Treat, the CCO's annual trick-or-treating event. Sign up with a student group to host decorated trunks for Lawrence community members to safely trick-or-treat at. 

Be prepared to pick a fun theme, dress up in Halloween costumes, and decorate the trunk of your car to match the spirit of your theme!

Each car should have a max of 4 volunteers. Be prepared to arrive at 4:30 PM.

The Watkins Museum of History's mission is to "preserve and share Douglas County’s cultural heritage to inspire civic engagement and commitment to shaping a better future." The museum hosts public programs, educational events, and exhibitions and collections in addition to offering free admission Tuesdays-Saturdays from 10am-4pm.

The Watkins Museum is seeking friendly and welcoming front door volunteers to support their work. Primary times of need are Thursdays from 1-4pm and Fridays from 10am-1pm, but all time availabilities will be considered.

SparkWheel at Prairie Park Elementary helps with basic needs (healthcare, hunger, food insecurity, etc.), after-school tutoring and mentoring, out-of-school enrichment activities, and parental support.

The goal of the Elementary Lunch Buddy program is to provide mentoring and another caring adult for students to spend a little time with. Elementary Lunch Buddy volunteering is a weekly commitment of one day per week. Volunteers meet one-on-one with their student match during elementary lunchtime.

Volunteers will need to complete a background check with SparkWheel.

About the Opportunity
Foster Village hosts a Moms Support Group on the 2nd Monday of every month in Lawrence. Volunteers provide childcare for foster and kinship children while parents attend the support group. Supervise and engage with children during the monthly support group meeting (games, activities, and general care).

Come join PEACE and decorate shirts to foster awareness about domestic violence's impact and honor survivors' strength! Decorated T-shirts will be displayed at Claire's Community's annual Candlelight Vigil on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 to raise awareness during Domestic Violence Awareness Month!

Here is where trained student gardeners can submit the hours that they have spent working on the garden individually. 

Audio-Reader’s Sensory Garden, located right by the Audio-Reader building on campus (1120 W 11th St) is maintained entirely by volunteers and is a beautiful place that is designed to appeal to all senses, not just sight, so that everyone can enjoy the garden. Volunteers help with weeding, sweeping the path, planting and trimming.

Audio-Reader has a weekly time for volunteers to be in the garden. Volunteers must complete the application process and receive a orientation session with a staff member before volunteering.

Lawrence Lights is a drive-thru holiday light display that brings thousands of sparkling designs to life each season. Volunteer nights are where the magic starts—helping string lights onto metal displays, wrapping trees, and setting up glowing features throughout the park. No experience needed, just good energy and a love for holiday cheer!

Lawrence Lights is a community fundraiser hosted by the Lawrence Sertoma Club, benefitting non-profit organizations across Douglas County. Since 2021, over $100,00 has been donated!

The Center for Supportive Communities (CSC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Lawrence, Kansas, is accepting applications for the 2025-26 school year. Join CSC in supporting children, families, and communities. Volunteers will work directly with students, implementing effective support strategies while collaborating with families and schools to promote student success. The Boys and Girls Club (BGC) operates a mentorship program that works with students of all ages. Volunteers do a wide variety of activities with the kids (can be inside or outside), including reading with them and playing games! Lessons will be given that day and you help the BGC workers with what they need! This volunteer opportunity is not a one-time event but continuous volunteering.

As a GED tutor, your job will be to serve as an instructor to help people complete their education and obtain a GED certificate. Your duties and responsibilities will be to select teaching methods based on the unique needs of students and keep them on track. You will be paired with one or more students during a time when you are available. Once you have been paired, you will be provided a list of specific areas in which the student needs practice as identified by their practice tests. Ideally, this targeted approach should take the student less than a month to complete their GED exams and earn their certificate. You will be making a real impact on your community while gaining experience that looks great on applications and resumes.

Conversations to Remember is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, dedicated to combating loneliness and isolation felt by older adults, including those living with dementia. This volunteer opportunity for undergraduate students matches 2-3 college students with older adults for virtual video visits. Many of these older adults have been suffering from isolation, and you could help brighten their days!

Our virtual visit volunteers are young adults who participate in video visits with seniors every week on our online platform. Each week, they return to meet with the same senior to share stories about what is going on in their lives. We’re looking for outgoing, chatty volunteers who can commit to one-hour visits each week on the same day and time for a minimum of 16 weeks. The goal of these visits is to create intergenerational relationships between senior citizens and young college students. 

This does not need to coincide with the start of a semester, as we have new virtual visits starting all the time. Students are matched with older adults for calls based on the times when they're available and have regular, weekly appointments for their visits.

Training: 90-minute webinar, 10-minute video, and 45-minute virtual simulation. Weekly commitment: 1 hour.

The Senior Resource Center for Douglas County runs a program called "Tech Help Tuesday" on Tuesdays from 2-3:30 pm each week. Generally, 4-6 seniors (anyone 60 and above) drop by to meet with volunteers one-on-one about technology issues they are having. No advanced understanding of technology is needed - just basic knowledge on how to use and operate phones and laptops etc. This would be a great opportunity for some volunteering hours!

Youth Futures a national program geared towards college and career preparation for youth. This program will match college with high school age mentees to enrolled in the Advancement Via Individual determination (AVID) program. Mentor volunteers will go through a mentor onboarding process in which they will complete an application, criminal background check, and orientation training. Once completed, mentors will be matched with high school mentee for the mentorship experience. This opportunity is a summer specific opportunity with an option to continue mentoring into the academic year in the Fall.

The Legal Self-Help Office at the Douglas County District Court is looking for volunteers to assist customers fill out intake forms and direct to appropriate resources on computers located in the office or printed forms, also, connect to appropriate community supports as appropriate.

Volunteer with Full Circle Youth! The Full Circle Youth Program's mission is to promote education, art, and wellness in a positive and inclusive environment. We are committed to empowering kids to set goals, engage with the community, embrace their creativity, and recognize their value as unique individuals.

Volunteers will be primarily responsible for engaging with youth participants and ensuring their safety and well-being. They may also help with tasks that support the program, such as administrative work, gardening, cleaning, snack preparation, or activity preparation. Volunteers should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to take initiative. 

The Full Circle Youth Program is administered at the Barbara Huppee Community Facility located at 1600 Haskell Ave #149-150. This drop-in center provides a free, safe, and creative environment for youth ages 7-17. All programming is free. Youth must reside in a household receiving housing assistance to participate.

Services and Activities Include:

CASA stands for Court-Appointed Special Advocate.  CASAs are trained volunteers who advocate for children who have been abused or neglected, and are under the protection of the court in Douglas County, Kansas.  CASA volunteers must complete background checks and 30 hours of initial training.  With support from a CASA Volunteer Advocate Coordinator, CASAs are then assigned to the case of a child or sibling group. 

CASAs meet with their child at least once per month (virtually or in person); gather information about their child, family, and the circumstances surrounding why the child is in foster care; write monthly reports and court reports about their observations; make recommendations to the court regarding the child’s placement and support services; and collaborate with biological and/or foster families, school, and service providers to make sure the child’s needs are met throughout the case.

Crisis Text Line is the free, 24/7 text line for people in crisis in the United States. The service is powered by volunteer Crisis Counselors who work remotely—anywhere with a computer and secure internet connection works.

LEAD UP (Leadership Education Adolescent Development with Unlimited Potential) is a student organization working with high school youth from racial and ethnic minorities to attain college education. Participants are mainly from KC, but some are from other parts of USA like California, South Dakota and Texas. Participating youth are typically first-generation college aspirants and need help with college preparedness.

The LEAD UP program has several components, but one of them is mentoring high school youth one-one to become ready for college. LEAD UP would like to invite undergrad/grad student volunteers who are interested to provide mentoring and tutoring support to these youth!

Lawrence Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers to assist with exterior home repair for seniors in our community through their Aging in Place program. While full-day volunteers are preferred, volunteers are also accepted for full-day shifts for 6 hrs (9:00am-3:00pm, 10am-4pm) and half-day shifts (12:30pm-3:00pm, 12pm-4pm). Shifts are available 3-4 days per week from Monday – Saturday.

The HeadQuarters Kansas: Counseling Center is providing students an opportunity to become a volunteer crisis counselor for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline!

They provide a 9-week training program for people interested in volunteer crisis work at HeadQuarters Kansas, this training covers a wide range of topics ranging from foundational counseling skills to suicide intervention to safety planning.

Training is offered 3 times a year, Spring, Summer, and Fall. The application process begins on the following months depending on the training session: Mid-January-Spring, Mid-May-Summer, Mid-August- Fall.

Build-site Construction: Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome on the build site completing a variety of tasks including framing, painting and caulking, and a whole slew of others. We're building at 50 Stevens and 73 Stevens in Eudora and we're there on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9am - 3pm.
